Finikia Village

"The houses of Oia talk to the sea, the houses of Finikia talk to the earth "

- Kadio Kolimva

One of the most beautiful villages on the island, the tranquil village of Finikia is located on the north part of Santorini, 10 minutes walk from the centre of Oia. The village stands out for the colourful buildings that remind a painting and compose an incredible setting.

Finikia Vineyards

"...those who carved and ploughed the fluffy soil, those who thrashed the barley, those who hunching coiled and harvested the vines. The "artists", because in such land, art is needed to produce its best and most valuable product, the wine.

-Kadio Kolimva

Finikia is surrounded by slopes full of vineyards and stone threshing fields.

People of the plain such as winegrowers, farmers and ploughmen, used to live in Finikia. It was full of kanaves (wineries).

There were the wineries where the grapes from the wine field of Santorini, were processed to wine. The economy of this small village was directly dependent from the wine.

1956

About 2,500 people used to live in Finikia before the 1956 earthquake.

Today, the village has few dwellers. Some years ago old houses and kánaves were restored, so the village came back to life.

In our days, Finikia is characterized as a Traditional Settlement and therefore the local architecture is somewhat protected. No cars or motor vehicles of any kind are allowed into the narrow alleys of the village. Finikia is a very silent and romantic place away from the afternoon tourist crowds raiding Oia due to its famous sunset. There you can enjoy your wine in peace while sun falls….
